The Diversity Awareness Profile is a self-assessment tool that has helped millions of individuals improve working relationships among diverse co-workers and customers. How? By increasing the awareness of participants' behaviors and showcasing how they directly affect other employees.

How It Works

The Diversity Awareness Profile is a 24-item self-assessment based on research gathered from focus groups, interviews, and thousands of diversity training sessions over the past 20 years. Participants analyze their results and discover their specific style of awareness based on five categories:

  1. Naïve: People in this category do not realize they exhibit biased behavior
  2. Perpetuator: People in this category are aware of their biases and prejudices and are aware that their behavior offends others
  3. Avoider: People in this category are aware of biases in themselves and others. They are working on their known prejudices, but they are reluctant to address inappropriate behaviors by others
  4. Change Agent: In this category, people are not only aware of biases in themselves and others – they also realize the negative impacts of acting on those biases
  5. Fighter:People in this category are constantly aware of behaviors that seem to be biased or prejudiced, and they confront others strongly

Uses and Applications

The Diversity Awareness Profile is a powerful assessment helping participants:

  • Increase their awareness of the perceptions they have of others
  • Assess the behaviors that most influence interaction with others
  • Modify behaviors to build respect for others.
  • Kick start a diversity training program
  • Improve upon an existing program
  • Gauge diversity awareness and the necessity of action within your organization
  • Transform their diverse workforce from a liability to a strategic advantage

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Become more aware of their behaviors and actions, whether overt or subtle
  • Evaluate and understand how their behavior can affect a person of a different culture, gender, or ethnic background
  • Identify instances that devalue others through small, subconscious behaviors and micro-inequities
