How It WorksThe Comprehensive Leader is based on extensive research of both academic and practitioner literature on leadership. The Model of Comprehensive Leadership is based on the belief that active knowledge, or the continued act of gaining, building, and using knowledge, is at the center of strong, visionary leadership.
The Model of Comprehensive Leadership captures the four dimensions of leadership knowledge necessary for visionary leadership:
- Know yourself
- Know others
- Know your organization
- Know the world
Ultimately, HRDQ's study advocates that the key to successful, visionary leadership is both the knowledge and practical application of each of these dimensions. The assessment presents 40 statements regarding current leadership behavior. After scoring is complete, participants create a profile by plotting their sub-scores in the four dimensions of leadership on charts. Feedback scores provide a side-by-side comparison. Participants then review the 15 possible leadership profiles. Finally, thought-provoking questions encourage individuals to find insight from the assessment results and take action for improvement.
Uses & ApplicationsAs with all HRDQ assessments, The Comprehensive Leader is effective as a stand-alone instrument or as a component of a larger training initiative.

Ideas for building bridges between The Model of Comprehensive Leadership and other popular leadership models are presented in the Facilitator Guide.
